Sound and Samsung codecs
The Buds4 Pro support standard AAC and SBC plus Samsung Seamless Codec, SSC-UHQ and LC3. Their highest-value modes require compatible Galaxy hardware, where Samsung controls both ends of the connection. That can improve consistency and unlock platform features, but it should not be confused with universal high-resolution support. On other phones, these behave more like conventional Bluetooth earbuds and lose part of the reason for their premium positioning.
Adaptive ANC and awareness
Adaptive noise cancellation is designed to respond to surroundings and work with ambient modes when outside sound matters. A secure tip seal remains the foundation of low-frequency isolation and bass. Owners should run any available fit test before changing EQ. Automatic behaviour is convenient in offices and public transport, yet manual control can be safer near roads. No algorithm reliably identifies every hazard or conversation at the right moment.
Fit and protection
At 5.1g per earbud, the Buds4 Pro are relatively light, with a 44.3g case. IP57 protection covers dust and temporary water exposure under test conditions, making them better suited to workouts and bad weather than many IPX4 rivals. It does not make the charging case invulnerable or guarantee resistance after damage. Dry the earbuds before charging and avoid salt water, soap and high-pressure jets.
Battery life
Samsung states up to six hours with ANC and 26 hours including the case. With ANC disabled, figures rise to seven hours and 30 hours total. Calls draw more power: around 4.5 hours from the earbuds with ANC and 20 hours with case recharges. These are maximum laboratory values, and volume, codec, signal strength and voice use can reduce them. The totals are competitive even if single-charge playback is not class-leading.
Ecosystem and compatibility
Automatic switching among supported Galaxy devices, settings through Galaxy Wearable and Samsung-specific audio features create the smoothest experience. Other Android devices can connect, but feature availability varies. iPhones can use basic Bluetooth audio, yet Samsung does not provide the Galaxy Wearable app for these earbuds on iOS. That makes them difficult to recommend to an iPhone-first household even when the hardware itself is appealing.
Who should buy it?
Buy Buds4 Pro if a recent Galaxy phone is your main source and you want a small, weather-resistant companion with integrated controls. Skip them if you use iPhone, change phone brands often or need platform-neutral codec and app support.
Alternatives to consider
Google Pixel Buds Pro 2 provide deeper Pixel and Google integration. Apple AirPods Pro 3 are the equivalent ecosystem choice for iPhone, while Sony WF-1000XM6 deliver a more platform-neutral app and LDAC.
Verdict
Samsung’s flagship earbuds make sense when evaluated as part of a Galaxy system, not as an isolated accessory. IP57 protection, low weight and adaptive features are genuine strengths. The narrower iOS story and proprietary advantages mean buyers outside that system can find better value elsewhere.
