Best forA seven-channel home cinema with HEOS music integration

The Marantz CINEMA 60 combines a seven-channel receiver platform with a distinctive front panel and network music support. It is worth considering when the desired cinema layout is already defined and the appearance matters in a visible living-room system. The design premium should still be assessed against usable features, rather than treated as evidence of a particular sound signature.

Research-based review. This assessment examines manufacturer documentation and the product’s suitability for different systems. We have not carried out hands-on listening, laboratory measurements or a battery test of this model. Performance figures below are manufacturer claims, not independently measured results.

A seven-channel system needs boundaries

Marantz identifies the CINEMA 60 as a 7.2-channel receiver. For an immersive layout, main and height speakers share seven amplifier channels. A five-speaker ear-level arrangement with two heights fits that count; a seven-speaker base with four heights requires a different processing and amplification plan.

The subwoofer connections are line-level outputs for suitable powered subwoofers, not extra speaker-amplifier channels. First-time buyers should draw the room and count each speaker. That simple exercise prevents the common mistake of buying on the total number of digits in a channel label.

The power rating needs its conditions

Marantz specifies 100 W per channel into eight ohms over 20 Hz to 20 kHz at 0.08 percent distortion with two channels driven. It should not be turned into a claim of seven times that continuous output under every condition.

Speaker sensitivity, impedance behaviour, listening distance and expected volume are more useful matching considerations than comparing unrelated marketing wattages. Allow ventilation around the receiver and follow the placement instructions. An attractive cabinet can be unsuitable if it traps heat or makes speaker and HDMI cable bends unmanageable.

HDMI routing and calibration

The UK product specification lists six HDMI inputs and the EU manual documents ARC/eARC and supported formats. Confirm the specific port and video mode needed for each source. A gaming console at high refresh rates has different requirements from a standard streaming box or disc soundtrack.

Audyssey MultEQ XT is the included room-calibration system. Take measurements carefully and inspect the resulting speaker assignments and crossovers. Calibration can help integrate a system, but cannot physically reposition a centre speaker hidden inside a cabinet or make every listening seat acoustically identical.

Design, music and regional versions

HEOS provides the network-music platform, with services and account requirements subject to current regional support. Check the service used in your household and how the receiver will be controlled when the TV is off. Everyday operation matters more than a streaming logo that is never used.

The CINEMA 60 name should also be distinguished from CINEMA 60 DAB listings. If a particular radio feature is essential, verify the exact regional model instead of assuming that a similar front panel means an identical tuner. For value, compare current local offers with simpler seven-channel products and with higher-tier models that solve an actual expansion requirement.

We have not auditioned this receiver and do not describe it as warm, musical or more detailed based on branding. Such judgements need a controlled comparison with matched levels and the same speakers. The documented feature set can support a purchase shortlist without inventing a listening experience.

What to expect in a real setup

Does CINEMA 60 support a full 7.1.4 speaker layout by itself? Its seven-channel platform is not an eleven-speaker main-and-height system. Choose the processing and amplification capacity around the actual layout.

Is CINEMA 60 always the DAB version? No. Check the exact model designation and regional specification if DAB reception is required. Similar names should not be treated as identical bundles.

Alternatives to consider

Marantz CINEMA 50: Investigate the higher-tier platform when a larger channel or calibration requirement exists, rather than assuming the CINEMA 60 can be expanded indefinitely.

Denon AVR-X2900H: A useful contemporary comparison when practical seven-channel features and local value matter more than front-panel styling.

Verdict

The CINEMA 60 is most convincing when its seven-channel scope, controls and appearance suit the finished room. Its documented connections and calibration are useful, but a future expansion plan may justify a different model now. Evaluate the complete system and current price rather than relying on a presumed brand sound.

Primary documentation

Specifications and feature descriptions were checked against the following official documents on 6 November 2026. Compatibility advice is our interpretation of those documented capabilities; it does not establish measured sound quality.
