8.6/10 Editorial score

Quick verdict

JBL Live Beam 3 is a feature-heavy alternative to conventional premium earbuds. Its 10mm drivers, LDAC support, adaptive ANC and six microphones cover the fundamentals, while the 1.45-inch touchscreen case offers controls without opening a phone app. Long rated battery life and wireless charging strengthen the package, although the large case and extra interface will not appeal to minimalists.

Sound and LDAC support

Live Beam 3 pairs 10mm dynamic drivers with JBL’s Personi-Fi and app-based equalization. LDAC allows higher wireless data rates from compatible Android devices, supporting the Hi-Res Audio Wireless certification. iPhones use AAC instead, and LDAC can trade battery stability for bandwidth in difficult radio conditions. The useful point is flexibility: the earbuds can be tuned extensively rather than forcing every listener to accept one fixed JBL curve.

Touchscreen Smart Charging Case

The 1.45-inch display can manage playback, volume, alarms, listening modes, EQ presets and other settings without reaching for the phone. It is a genuine convenience when the case is already in hand, particularly during work or travel. It also adds size, cost and another interface to learn. Users who always control audio from a watch or phone may see it as duplication rather than an essential advantage.

Adaptive ANC and awareness

True Adaptive Noise Cancelling uses the microphones to respond to environmental changes, while Smart Ambient controls how much outside sound enters. The JBL Headphones app provides additional adjustment. A good physical seal remains necessary for bass and low-frequency cancellation, so tip choice matters. The earbuds’ closed stem design should provide more passive isolation than comfort-focused semi-open models, but performance still varies by ear shape and conditions.

Calls and connectivity

Six microphones support voice pickup and environmental-noise reduction, with VoiceAware letting users adjust how much of their own voice they hear during calls. Bluetooth multipoint allows connection to two devices, useful for laptop meetings and phone media. Google Finder and Audio Switch features depend on compatible Android devices. These are practical productivity additions, although no microphone system can eliminate all wind or nearby voices.

Battery and charging

JBL rates the earbuds for up to 12 hours with ANC off, around 10 hours with standard ANC and nine hours with True Adaptive ANC. The case can extend the ANC-off total to 48 hours. A 10-minute charge can provide roughly four hours, and both USB-C and wireless charging are supported. Those numbers are a major strength, though actual results change with volume, LDAC, calls, display use and noise-control settings.

Fit, durability and value

At approximately 5g each, the earbuds are relatively light despite the extensive electronics. Their IP55 rating protects against dust and water jets, which is useful for workouts and wet commutes, but not for swimming. The case is the larger part of the carrying equation because of its screen. Value is strongest for buyers who will use both the case controls and the long battery rather than treating the display as a novelty.

Who should buy it?

Live Beam 3 suits commuters, Android users and frequent travelers who want LDAC, multipoint, long battery life and a case that can control the earbuds independently. It is also attractive to people who enjoy detailed EQ and app customization. Minimalists, small-pocket users and iPhone owners who prioritize ecosystem integration may prefer a simpler case and a platform-specific alternative.

Alternatives to consider

Nothing Ear (a) delivers LDAC, adaptive ANC and good battery value at a lower price, without a touchscreen case. Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 4 brings broader codec support and a more conventional premium design. AirPods Pro are the more integrated option for Apple users. JBL’s own Tour Pro line is also relevant if the smart-display concept matters more than keeping the budget controlled.

Verdict

JBL Live Beam 3 succeeds by making its extras usable: the touchscreen case, long endurance, LDAC, multipoint and adjustable ANC all address daily tasks. The design is not subtle, and the screen will be unnecessary for some owners, but the underlying earbud specification remains competitive even if the novelty is ignored. For feature-hungry Android users, it is a versatile and unusually interactive package.
