Six-driver architecture and intended scale
Mu-so 2 uses separate bass, midrange and high-frequency drivers for left and right channels, each with dedicated amplification. This gives it more acoustic headroom and stereo intent than compact single-driver smart speakers. The drivers remain close together inside one cabinet, so the soundstage cannot match the physical separation of two well-positioned speakers.
Amplification and digital processing
Naim quotes 450 watts of total amplification and uses digital signal processing to manage crossover, driver behaviour and room-related settings. The headline power figure should not be compared directly with passive-amplifier ratings because system design and limiting differ. The practical benefit is controlled integration between amplifier, drivers and enclosure without requiring separate components.
Streaming platform
The platform covers major network standards and services, including AirPlay 2, Chromecast, Spotify Connect, TIDAL, Qobuz, UPnP and Roon Ready playback. This broad compatibility reduces dependence on one phone ecosystem. Service availability, account requirements and maximum playback quality vary, so the chosen service and connection method still matter.
TV and physical connectivity
HDMI ARC allows Mu-so 2 to replace a basic TV speaker system, while optical, USB, analogue and network inputs support additional sources. It is not a surround decoder or a substitute for a full soundbar package, but its strong stereo hardware can make it appealing in rooms where one premium enclosure must handle both music and television.
Design and interface
The aluminium casework, illuminated control dial and sculpted grille make the product feel closer to premium furniture than a conventional smart speaker. The wide, heavy cabinet needs a stable surface and is not intended to move frequently. Replaceable grille colours offer visual flexibility, although they add cost.
Room placement and settings
The app provides placement-related options for different distances from walls. These settings can help manage bass, but they are not full automated room correction. A solid, level surface and sensible distance from corners remain important, particularly because the cabinet is capable of substantial low-frequency output.
Value and long-term ownership
Mu-so 2 is expensive compared with Sonos, Bluesound and Apple alternatives, yet it combines amplification, speakers, streaming and TV connectivity in one carefully integrated product. The main value question is whether elegant simplicity is worth more than the wider imaging and upgrade flexibility of separate active speakers.
Who should buy it?
Choose Mu-so 2 if you want a powerful, beautifully built one-box system for serious music listening and occasional TV use, with broad streaming compatibility. Buyers who can accommodate two speakers should compare active stereo systems at the same price.
Alternatives to consider
Bluesound Pulse M is smaller and less expensive with strong BluOS support; Sonos Era 300 focuses on spatial formats and simpler multi-room use. KEF LS50 Wireless II and Dynaudio Focus 10 provide true stereo separation, while the Naim Mu-so Qb 2nd Generation is the more compact Naim option.
Verdict
Naim Mu-so 2nd Generation remains one of the most complete premium wireless all-in-one systems. Its power, connectivity and industrial design are exceptional, but buyers pay heavily for the convenience of a single enclosure and should compare it with active stereo pairs before deciding.
